A's Red-Letter Day

Hope?  Hope makes me laugh, and laugh, and laugh.  Oh boy.

Hope is a liar, a trickster, a thief.  Hope takes your heart and turns it against you when everything goes wrong.  Hope if for people who can't understand that the world is out to get them, that there's no such thing as a happy ending, and that nothing is what it seems.

Hope makes a fool out of you.  Hope proves you wrong time and time again, and yet, humans still rely on it to get by.

Nobody ever made a living off of hope.  Nobody ever survived being shot in the head with hope.  And nobody ever survived hunger by eating hope.  B is a moron for ever believing in it.

B does dumb things like jeopardize friendship for romantic prospects.  He dwells only on what he does not have, instead of counting his plentiful blessings.  To be honest, B is rather creepy; he does tons of planning to lead conversations into proper action territory.  From there, he has a mental picture of how he expects things to go down.  He tries to claim it's A who makes plans, but it's not.  A wouldn't make plans based off of hope.

B doesn't understand how things work.  For starters, he doesn't understand statistics or probability.  Statistics and probability both say that the odds are slim.  He doesn't understand how to infer things from basic social cues, relying instead on hope to align the probabilities to deny the statistics.  He's made this house of cards of hope-influenced probabilities just to see things the way he wants.  Deep down, he knows that he's wrong and that all his logic is wrong and faulty.  But he's too addicted to hope to see clearly that he's wrong.

He's so pitiful.  It's rather embarrassing to have to associate with someone who is so focused on romantics all the time.  Just get over it.  It's not going to happen.

The A-side is, and always will be, the song the public knows, no matter how creative or new the B-side is.
